Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Expedition
Dear Parents and Carers.
This week 40 intrepid year 10 students have completed and passed the expedition section of their DofE Bronze award. Congratulations to every one of them.
The group started in Cardingmill Valley walking up onto the Long Mynd carrying their heavy rucksacks in drizzle and high winds. They then navigated in very poor visibility around the countryside ending up in the village of Ratlinghope to camp the night. They set up camp, cooked their tea and with darkness starting at about 6.30 they kept themselves occupied playing football, cards or chatting in torchlight until they retired to tents at about 8pm (a record)
On the final day of the expedition they were all up by 7.30am and had finished breakfast, tidied up camp and all left by 9.30am walking north towards Golden Valley finishing near the village of Picklescott.
Every student was a credit to the school, showing fabulous teamwork, leadership and resilience with no one moaning despite the difficult weather conditions and wearing my bright red (untrendy) waterproof coats and trousers.
