On Thursday the 16th of June Moreton School took part In the Wolverhampton Community Games Baton walk, inspired by this year’s West Midlands hosted Commonwealth Games. The Commonwealth Baton Walk objectives were to bring the children and young people from the region that are in primary, secondary and special schools together to celebrate the Commonwealth Games and its importance.

The whole school came out to take part in the Batons arrival celebrating with Ghanaian inspired dance routines and music. 70 students were chosen to walk with the baton to its next destination of Bushbury Nursery School, where the Moreton students performed and the toddlers gave a live dance performance to ‘Reach for the Stars’.

The event also saw Commonwealth athlete Lesley Owusu, British Council Representative John Rolfe MBE, and Sam Perks from ConnectEd Partnership celebrating with us. At the event Moreton also had a surprise achievement when the British Council awarded Moreton School with the ‘British Council International School Award’, the whole school is delighted of the achievement.

Moreton school this year has taken part in the Commonwealth Connection project and has worked hard to develop global citizenship, the importance of diversity, expanding cultural capital and team building. Working international with schools in Ghanaian, as well as collaboratively with primary and secondary schools throughout Wolverhampton and Walsall. Our two next big events will be our Commonwealth inspired sports day at WV Active Aldersley, and our Commonwealth Connection collaborative Art Project which will be exhibited at Wolverhampton School of Art from 14th July 22.
