NEU Strike Action – March 2023

Dear Parents/Carers
I would like to thank you for your support regarding the two previous strike days and I wish to update you on the plans for the final two days of industrial action (strike) by one of the teaching unions the National Education Union (NEU). To remind you, this is a national dispute with the Government and is therefore not confined to our school or Wolverhampton alone. The industrial action (strike) may result in classes or whole schools closing across the United Kingdom.

The remaining dates for the industrial action (strike) are:

  • Wednesday 15th March 2023: all eligible members in England and Wales
  • Thursday 16th March 2023: all eligible members in England and Wales

Staff who are members of this Union, may decide not to strike, or could strike for one or all of these days.

At Moreton School, this will mean that we may not be able to provide a statutory provision on the above dates for all Year Groups. The decision to close the school to all or some groups of children is never taken lightly. However, where staff have elected to take lawful industrial action, we have to consider very carefully if we are able to make suitable arrangements to ensure the health, safety and well-being of children throughout the day.

For Wednesday 15th March, we will be closed to pupils in Years 8 and 10.

Years 7, 9, 11 and 13 students, will be expected to attend school as normal and our Wellbeing Team will contact our identified students (in other Year groups) to arrange provision. I would therefore advise you to make contingency plans for your child’s care arrangements on the above date (15th March).

For Thursday 16th March, we will be closed to pupils in Years 7, 9 and 10.

Years 8, 11, 12 and 13 students, will be expected to attend school as normal and our Wellbeing Team will contact our identified students (in other Year groups) to arrange provision. I would therefore advise you to make contingency plans for your child’s care arrangements on the above date (16th March).

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but would like to thank you for your cooperation during difficult times.
Yours sincerely,

Ben Dumayne

Headteacher
