“The Dance Team at Moreton are a passionate and energetic department, determined to support, encourage and challenge students to develop physical and psychological skills through expressive movement.
The dance curriculum is focal around composition, appreciation, performance and technique. These are built upon from dance sessions in years 7, 8 and 9 and BTEC qualifications in Years 10 and 11. Further study at RSL Level 3 Performing Arts- Dance is available for Post 16 students through the Amethyst Trust.” – Moreton’s Dance Dep
artment.

Students are required to work with focus, discipline and consideration in practical and theoretic analysis. The scope for creativity is vast as teachers create a safe and encouraging environment for all students to develop ideas into movements of expression. Awareness of self and body is built through the exploration of genres and use of stimuli. Exploration and research enables students to delve into concepts and themes generating movement’s possibilities. Students are encouraged to choreograph sequences as solos and in groups, increasing independence as well as support, bond and appreciation of each other within the team. Dance offers an outlet for students as a means of communication and statement of personality.

The Dance team are exceptionally proud of the talent and achievement of dance students throughout the school and showcase performances frequently; in assemblies, annual dance shows, community events, professional company and choreographer workshops and competitions. Student performers have increased levels of confidence and self- esteem and are constantly reflective of their work.

Moreton School dance studio and theatre spaces provide students with purposeful environments to rehearse and perform. The dance studio offers extra-curricular opportunities to students who require and desire supplementary dance time after school, as well as an open studio once a week for all students to rehearse class work or prepare new pieces.
We aim to challenge all student’s cognitive and physical abilities, through considered and thoughtful research built into meaningful and purposeful dance performances. Student’s achievements and talents are recognised, rewarded and displayed for recognition at all available opportunities.
