Governance

Welcome to the Governance Section of the Moreton School website!

In this section you can find out more about our role in school, the work we do, who we are and how you can contact us.
The main role of the Governing Body is to provide strategic leadership and work with the headteacher and staff to ensure our school provides good quality education and continues to strive for excellence through supporting, promoting and monitoring learning and learning outcomes.

The Strategic Role

In this role, governors:
• Play a lead part in planning and setting School Improvement Priorities and directing school resources.
• Set policies to ensure the school achieves its aims and objectives together with monitoring and evaluating progress towards them.
• Focus on raising standards of achievement, establishing high expectations and promoting effective teaching and learning so that every pupil achieves his/her full potential.
• Ensure that there are systems in place to monitor progress. Use evidence to review progress against targets to see whether policies and practices are effective.
• Benchmark school achievements.

The Critical Friend Role

In this role, governors:
• Act as a source of challenge to the headteacher as well as providing support and guidance.
• Recognise and celebrate achievements and under performance.
• Encourage strategies and bring about improvement.

The Accountability Role

In this role, governors:
• Discuss, question and refine proposals while respecting the professional roles of the headteacher and other staff and their responsibilities for management of the school.
• Are prepared to account for the school’s performance and to explain its decisions and actions to anyone who has a legitimate interest.
