At Moreton we are committed to promoting the fundamental British values of; democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. We take seriously the Department for Education when it states: ‘…Actively promoting the values means challenging opinions or behaviours in school that are contrary to fundamental British values.’
Our school motto of: Challenge Yourself, Be Prepared, and Show Respect unequivocally lays the foundation for teaching British values and SMSC. We are proud that we have this as the root of everything we do at Moreton.
We have ensured that British Values are weaved throughout our curriculum offer and that they are supplemented and complimented by our assembly and form time programme. The aims of the programme are to:
- Increase Cultural Capital
- Cement British Values
- Promote SMSC
We embrace diversity at Moreton and have ensured that the curriculum on offer takes students on a journey around the world, and through elements of their community – both on and offline – that they may not be aware of. We have an extensive extra-curricular timetable that offers opportunities to students in the morning, lunchtime and after school. We are passionate about this offer as we know that a wide range of interests will help our students; mental health, life chances and make them resilient.
Our knowledge-rich approach to teaching enables us to embed these values in every department. Furthermore, we have a robust RSE curriculum that is complimented by external visits, assembly and from time activities, and Enrichment lessons. Our recent Whole Year Reading days saw us use texts with the issues we know – from conversations with our Pastoral team, Safeguarding and Attainment and Standards Leaders – our students face. A commitment to developing Cultural Capital means we are always taking opportunities to add diverse voices and narratives to our curriculum.
Most importantly, our students feel safe at Moreton with excellent Pastoral support and guidance. All staff have completed the Prevent training and our Safeguarding team renew guidance on a regular basis.
