First Aid Policies and Student Health
Moreton School currently operate a medical and first aid system called “Medical Tracker”.
Medical Tracker is a secure and reliable system that allows us to effectively care for our students. We can manage and retain medical information for students, record any instances of first aid accidents and treatment administered. Any medications can be tracked and any expiry dates of these medications will automatically generate notification for the First Aid officer, and parents alike.
Any specific injuries can be reported directly to RIDDOR, and the system’s reporting features can provide in-depth reports on key incident locations, types of injury, by gender, or be student specific.
Via Medical Tracker, our Parents/ Carers will be immediately advised on any first aid incidents via email – please ensure that the school has an up to date record of your preferred email address and a working emergency contact number that you wish us to use for our first point of contact.
Long Term Medical Conditions
This can include:
• Details of the medical condition
• Special requirements and daily care
• Details of any medications to be taken
• What constitutes an emergency
• Emergency contact details

Medicines
All medicines should be stored securely within the First Aid Office, and students will be made aware of where their own medicines are stored. No student should carry their medication with them unless agreed by the school first aid team, this excludes inhalers, epi pens and diabetic testing kits which students are encouraged to keep with them.
Nut Free School
People who suffer from nut allergies can develop a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. If someone has a nut allergy, it is not just eating nuts that can cause a severe reaction, just being touched on the skin or smelling the breath of someone who has had nuts or a product containing nuts can trigger anaphylactic shock (which can cause breathing and swallowing difficulties). First aid staff in the school are trained to use the Epi-pens (an injection of adrenalin) which is required immediately if this happens.
We have a duty of care towards students in school with nut allergies and have therefore made the decision for all schools within our trust are to become nut free. We ask for your support in ensuring that no nut products are contained in student’s lunch boxes or brought into the school as treats. For example:
Peanut butter sandwiches
Chocolate spreads
Cereal bars
Some granola bars
Cakes that contain nuts
Biscuits / Cookies that contain nuts
Peanut butter cakes
Some Asian food, including satay Sauces that contain nuts
This list is not exhaustive, so please check the packaging of products closely. Moving forwards, we do have to insist we are a nut free school and any products containing nuts will be confiscated, in order to safeguard the safety of students who have nut-allergies.
We ask for your support, in ensuring our schools are nut free.
